The Krasnoyarsk Railway has opened double–track train traffic on two sections of the Southern Route Mezhdurechensk – Taishet: the 557 km – Koshurnikovo junction in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Chartykovsky – Kamyshta in the Republic of Khakassia. The work was carried out within the framework of the investment project “Increasing the capacity of the Artyshta – Mezhdurechensk – Taishet section”, included in the Yenisei Siberia KIP.
The total length of the new tracks built was 27 km. To ensure the energy supply of new facilities, more than 60 km of the contact network has been laid, modern communication systems, automation and telemechanics have been installed, regulating the movement of trains. In addition, in Khakassia, during the modernization of the stage, railway workers reconstructed the Kamyshta traction substation, and in the Krasnoyarsk Territory they built a bridge crossing over the Kanzyba River with a length of 128 m.
Head of the Krasnoyarsk Railway Alexey Tumanin: “The Mezhdurechensk – Taishet line, built in the middle of the last century mainly as a single-track line, today is the starting point of the Eastern polygon of Russian Railways. It transits export and domestic goods in the most sought-after eastern direction. The modernization of the 557 km – Koshurnikovo and Chartykovsky – Kamyshta crossings is necessary to solve strategic tasks: this is a contribution to the development of logistics and improving the efficiency of cargo transportation along the entire eastern corridor. The capacity of the updated crossings has increased by 1.5 times.”
As part of the project, the Koshurnikovo station, a crucial railway junction of the Southern Course of the Russian Railways in the Sayan Mountains, has also been completely rebuilt. The station has been digitally controlled, which significantly increases its efficiency. Ten Koshurnikovo station tracks have been extended to 1.2 km in order to receive and pass heavy freight trains weighing 7,100 tons.
Sergey Ladyzhenko, General Director of the Yenisei Siberia Development Corporation: “Increasing the capacity of the Artyshta – Mezhdurechensk – Taishet section is one of the most important investment projects for the development of railway infrastructure and one of the largest within the framework of the Yeniseiskaya Sibir KIP. It is aimed at ensuring the transport accessibility of the industrial clusters of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia and is a key factor in the development of the two regions.”
It should be noted that in 10 months of 2024, Russian Railways allocated 25 billion rubles for the new construction and reconstruction of the Mezhdurechensk – Taishet section. By the end of this year, the Russian Railways plans to open double–track traffic on two more stretches of the Southern Course, where the construction of new second tracks is currently being completed – Unerchik – Kozyla and Kozyla – Irbeiskaya in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
