The World Freestyle and Snowboard Champs 2021 ends in Krasnoyarsk

The World Freestyle and Snowboard Championship 2021 has ended in Krasnoyarsk. The last set of medals was played in the ski cross team competition.

Twelve teams from Russia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland and Austria took the start, each team included two athletes.

The team of Austria (Christina Foedermayr, Oliver Vierthaler) became the winners of the 2021 Freestyle and Snowboard World Junior Champs in team ski cross.

“The first race was not easy for our team  because I fell, so my partner had to start last,” said Oliver Vierthaler. “Fortunately, we succeeded in the end. I am very glad that we won and took part in these competitions. I liked it all very much. The organization is one of the best we’ve ever seen!”

The silver medalists were the Italian team (Andrea Chesi, Simone Deromedis). After the awarding ceremony, Simone Deromedis shared his impressions of the competition: “In the big finals, I came first. The course was good, I performed much better than yesterday, and I am very happy about that. The organization of the whole event was excellent. For me, Krasnoyarsk turned out to be a very interesting city, it is very different from those cities that we have seen in Europe, so it was very cool to see something new.”

Bronze – Russia-2 team (Polina Ryabova, Andrei Gerasimov). Switzerland-2 team (Margaux Dumont, Sven Liechti), which also made it to the big finals, took 4th place.

According to the results of the small finals, Russia-1 (Darya Melchakova, Vladimir Shmyrov) took 5th place, Russia-3 (Elizaveta Ponkratova, Egor Proskurin) – 6th, and the German team (Laura Haeusl, Kilian Himmelsbach) became the 7th.

In total, at the 2021 Freestyle and Snowboard World Championships, the athletes of the Russian freestyle team won 21 medals: 9 gold, 2 silver and 10 bronze.

“During the 2021 World Freestyle and Snowboard Championship, Krasnoyarsk turned into a center of world sports,” noted Sergey Ladyzhenko, Director General of the Yenisey Siberia Development Corporation. “The level of the participants is very high, so we can confidently say that, in the future, the winners and prize-winners of these competitions will participate in the adult world championships and in the Olympic Games. I am very glad that a large number of Krasnoyarsk residents and guests of our city supported the athletes: over 10 days, more than 14 thousand spectators attended the competition. It should be noted that the program of the events was not limited to sports and also included entertainment locations and a cultural program. The atmosphere of a real festival reigned in the Sopka Cluster! A significant result was that the International Ski Federation, the Russian Freestyle Federation and the Russian Snowboard Federation highly appreciated the level of organization of the championship – this is very important for us!”

Dmitry Solntsev, manager of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Sberbank, congratulated the winners and prize-winners of the competition: “It is a great honor for Sber to be a partner of this large-scale international event. When about 600 participants from 28 countries come to the competition, it is very honorable not only for the region, but also for our entire country. We always support events that are significant for the region.”

The FIS World Junior Champs was held on the slopes of the Sopka Cluster in Krasnoyarsk from 18 to 27 March 2021. During the competition, athletes from 28 countries competed for 30 sets of medals in all freestyle skiing and snowboarding sports.
