The Severnaya Zvezda company running the West Taymyr industrial cluster construction project for the production of coal concentrates from the coking coal has acquired the certificate of the State Environmental Impact Assessment Body for several facilities in the Syradasay coal deposit. A part of the Yenisey Siberia Comprehensive Investment Project, the project is expected to become one of the key points for the social and economic development of the north of Krasnoyarsk Region.
The expert assessment showed that the planned facilities are designed in compliance with the current environmental standards and bear no hazard for the environment of the Arctic zone. The certificate has been issued for the coal pit in the South-western site of the field, the marine coal terminal, the coal preparation plant with a maximum capacity of 5 million tonnes per year. By the present moment, the project documentation for all the three facilities has been submitted to the General Board of State Expert Review of the Russian Federation.
The resource potential of the Syradasay deposit exceeds 5 billion tonnes. The project includes the construction of the West Taymyr industrial cluster for the production of coal concentrates from the coking coal with a capacity of 5 million tonnes and a potential for expansion to 10 million tonnes per year. The cluster will include an open-pit coal mine, a deep processing plant, a rotation camp with all the necessary infrastructure for the accommodation of the builders and workers, and auxiliary facilities.
Previously, the construction of the Syradasay field coal terminal to be used for accumulation and shipment of the coal was included in the Russian land-use plan regarding the federal transport and federal motorways. At the end of the year 2019, the Severnaya Zvezda company in cooperation with the Administration of the Taymyr Dolgano-Nenets Municipal District organized a public hearing on the Taymyr Coal Preparation Plant Project and the assessment of the environmental impact it makes.
Director General of the Yenisey Siberia Development Corporation Sergei Ladyzhenko remarks that the project will make a significant contribution to the development of Krasnoyarsk Region. “We see that the investor is making consistent efforts to acquire all the certificates and permissions, ready to comply with the high environmental standards set for such projects in today’s society. The new coal production cluster will create new jobs, promote the development of the Arctic infrastructure and provide the necessary traffic to the Northern Sea Route,” said Sergei Ladyzhenko.
