A new crushing complex at the Norilsk Concentration Plant

Norilsk Nickel continues to prepare to increase the production capacity of the Norilsk Concentration Plant (part of Bear Creek LLC – Norilsk Nickel’s subsidiary). The next step is an installation of a new crushing complex, which will allow the factory to process up to 9.2 million tons of ore per year. Work on increasing the production capacity of the Norilsk Concentration Plant is being carried out within the framework of the Southern Cluster project – part of Yenisey Siberia Comprehensive Investment Project.

The new equipment was installed in a short time – two months and a half – in the conditions of the current production. About 100 people who worked at the facility around the clock completely dismantled the old equipment, assembled about 50 tons of metal structures and poured 220 cubic meters of concrete mounting reinforced concrete structures. Large-sized equipment (the weight of the heaviest unit is about 45 tons) was installed using two cranes with a lifting capacity of 15 and 50 tons.

“Six months after the moment this project emerged, we have gone through all the stages of design, manufacture of equipment and construction and installation work. The volume of investments in the project is 550 million rubles. We also have big plans to modernize the existing fine crushing department and the Talnakh ore crushing block – these are the next tasks that we have to solve,” commented Vladimir Zaytsev, CEO of Medvezhiy Ruchey LLC.

Since 2017, the Norilsk Concentration Plant has been part of Medvezhiy Ruchey LLC – the Norilsk Nickel’s subsidiary.  It processes the entire volume of disseminated ore of the northern part of the Norilsk-1 deposit, as well as copper ores of the Talnakhskoye and Oktyabrskoye deposits with the production of nickel and copper concentrates.

The main departments of the factory: crushing shop, grinding and flotation shop, and shop of hydraulic structures and hydrotransport. The plant has two pipelines designed to transport dump tailings to the Lebyazhye tailings dump: one is in operation, the second is a backup.
