Scientists of the Yenisey Siberia Research Center have proposed a new system for monitoring dangerous objects based on GLONASS

A modern monitoring system that will increase the degree of protection of dams, power plants, bridges and other strategically important facilities has been proposed by scientists from the Siberian Federal University (SIBFU). The work is carried out within the framework of the program of the world-class scientific and educational center “Yenisey Siberia”.

The new monitoring system, created on the basis of GLONASS, will be able to quickly monitor and transmit information about the state of geodynamic objects such as dams, bridges, tunnels, industrial enterprises, nuclear power plants, quarries, etc.

Unlike the current system, which uses total stations, levelers, rangefinders and similar devices, the new project is almost independent of the weather and has a very low delay in data transmission.

SIBFU scientists have already begun to develop the components provided for by the project. These are, in particular, interference-proof antenna systems, high-precision navigation devices and special software.

“At the current stage of the project, a mock-up of an antenna–feeder device has been developed for a monitoring system that allows measurements using GLONASS signals in differential mode with high accuracy, which will ensure prompt diagnostics of the condition of the structure in real time without the need for calibration and verification of the system,” said the project manager, Associate professor of the Department of Radio Engineering at the Institute of Engineering Physics and Radioelectronics of SibFU Alexey Erokhin.

The world-class scientific and educational Center (REC) “Yenisei Siberia” was established in 2019. It is an interregional association initiated by the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republics of Khakassia and Tyva. The participants of the REC include 28 scientific and educational organizations and enterprises of the real sector of the economy. During its work, the scientific and educational center “Yenisei Siberia” has formed more than 50 complex projects for the development of new technologies, bringing together leading scientific, educational and industrial organizations not only of the region, but also of the country.
