Scientists of the Yenisey Siberia Research Center have proposed a new method for assessing the reliability of power lines

Scientists of the Polytechnic Institute of the Siberian Federal University have developed special software that allows calculating the reliability of power transmission lines (power lines).

An important task in the operation of hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) is the reliable uninterrupted operation of all elements of the electric power system. Emergency shutdowns of power lines often cause a decrease in the capacity of hydroelectric power plants. Most often, this occurs as a result of damage to the elements of the HPP circuit or in the case of coincidence of planned repairs of hydroelectric power plant equipment with emergency shutdowns of other components, including power lines.

The authors of the development analyzed the practical power distribution schemes that are used at hydroelectric power plants in Eastern Siberia. Based on the data obtained, scientists have created software that will help make the operation of power lines stable even in case of damage and emergency shutdowns of elements of the electric power system.

“High-voltage power transmission lines are less reliable among other elements of the electric power system. This is due to their large length and numerous external influences: strong wind, ice formations on wires, sudden changes in air temperature, etc. Using a probabilistic model and a software package for analysis, we made calculations and obtained the final reliability indicators of power lines,” said Vladimir Tremyasov, co–author of the development, Associate professor of the Department of Electric Power Engineering.

The world-class scientific and educational Center (REC) “Yenisei Siberia” was established in 2019. It is an interregional association initiated by the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republics of Khakassia and Tyva. The participants of the REC include 28 scientific and educational organizations and enterprises of the real sector of the economy. During its work, the scientific and educational center “Yenisei Siberia” has formed more than 50 complex projects for the development of new technologies, bringing together leading scientific, educational and industrial organizations not only of the region, but also of the country.
