Reconstruction of Khandagayty checkpoint and prospects for the development of Russian-Mongolian cooperation were discussed in Tyva

A working meeting was held in Kyzyl on the issues of reconstruction and transfer of Borshoo and Khandagayty multilateral checkpoints to the status, development of an air checkpoint in Kyzyl, as well as prospects for international customs cooperation. The event was attended by representatives of the Republican Government, Yenisey Siberia Development Corporation, Krasnoyarsk Customs and customs authorities of Mongolia.

Vladimir Donskikh, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Tyva, gave a welcoming speech. He mentioned that reconstruction of border checkpoints is carried out taking into account the current needs to increase passenger and cargo traffic between the countries.

“After the reconstruction, the multilateral status of Borshoo and Khandagayty checkpoints will be formalized. Owing to this, goods declared both on the territory of Mongolia and Russia and third countries will be able to pass through the border,” Vladimir Donskikh said.

According to the head of the Krasnoyarsk Customs Vasily Kostomarov, currently, higher number of cars crosses the Khandagayty checkpoint, while after the reconstruction the passenger traffic will increase by 1.5 times. Now customs officers are preparing for a large amount of work, so the issue of hiring more staff for this checkpoint to ensure constant and operational work is considered. Planned capacity will make at least 560 people per day.

As Victoria Olchey, head of the Customs Cooperation Department of the Siberian Customs Administration, outlined there is a regular exchange of data on the situation at checkpoints and the intensity of transport traffic within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Mongolia, .

Reconstruction of the Khandagayty two–way automobile checkpoint is carried out within the project of a cross–border automobile corridor “Krasnoyarsk – Abakan – Ak–Dovurak – Chadan – Khandagayty – Ulangom – Khovd – Urumqi”, included in the Yenisey Siberia CIP.
