Prospects for creating a cross-border road corridor discussed in Tyva

On 27 January, the first scheduled KrasAvia flight arrived in Kyzyl, the capital of the Republic of Tyva, from Abakan.

At the airport, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tyva Oleg Bady, Acting Minister of Road and Transport Complex of the Republic of Tyva Shoraan Chyrgal-ool and KrasAvia CEO Andrey Egorov met the guests from Khakassia, namely Deputy Head of the Republic of Khakassia Yuri Kurlaev and Acting Minister of Transport and Traffic Management of the Republic of Khakassia Oleg Emelin.

They held a meeting the main agenda of which was comprised by the issue of creation of the Krasnoyarsk-Abakan-Kyzyl-Khandagayty-Urumqi cross-border road corridor to be implemented within the Yenisey Siberia CIP.

This project is intended to expand cross-border trade, include the Republic of Tyva in global transport routes, attract additional investment, create trading houses in Mongolia and China, as well as a network of logistics centres with special conditions for transportation, storage and partial processing of goods. The project is planned to be implemented by 2024, and the total amount of investments will be about 100 million roubles.

“The air travel being a safe alternative to road transport, especially in winter, is now available for the regional capitals of Yenisey Siberia. This is good news, and of course, the success of Yenisey Siberia and one of the first indicators of our work. Today, my colleagues and I discussed the issues of creation of the Krasnoyarsk-Abakan-Kyzyl-Khandagayty-Urumqi cross-border road corridor. The main issue is to coordinate the actions of the regions to transfer sections of the highway from Abakan to Chadan to Federal ownership, and further bringing it into a regulatory state with the attraction of funding from the federal budget. We presented the concept of a comprehensive project mainly related to the export of the Yenisey Siberia agribusinesses to Mongolia and China through the Khandagayty border crossing,” concluded Alexey Nikolaev, Head of Development Directorate, Yenisey Siberia Development Corporation.

Flights from Kyzyl to Abakan and back are operated 3 times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, by the L-410 Turbolet able to carry up to 19 passengers or up to 1,800 kg of cargo over a distance of up to 1,500 km. The flight takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The tickets cost about 990 roubles; passengers can take up to 10 kg of hand luggage on board. Expected passenger traffic amounts to 5,928 passengers per year.
