FIS Snowboard World Cup in Snowboard Cross Opening Ceremony took place in Krasnoyarsk

FIS Snowboard World Cup in Snowboard Cross has started in Krasnoyarsk. Qualification races and the Opening Ceremony of the competitions took place at the Sopka Cluster.

Musicians from Siberian Percussion, White masters and EttiDeti dance groups, Yeniseiskiye Zori dance ensemble, MadMen show drummers, bayan player Dmitry Michkovsky, Real Jump team and CheerSport Cheerleading Federation team performed for the spectators of the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Snowboard Cross. The performances reflect the spirit of the Yenisey Siberia and the unity of sports, extreme stunts and youth culture. Also, the Opening Ceremony included the parade of athletes.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Sergey Kozupitsa greeted the participants and guests of the competitions on behalf of the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss: “A little less than 3 years ago, this wonderful sports complex hosted competitions as part of the XXIX Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019. 2 years ago, the complex hosted the FIS World Cup Stages and in March 2021 – the World Freestyle and Snowboard Championships. For the first time in history, the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Snowboard Cross took place beyond the Urals. Athletes from 16 countries take part in the competition where they fight for 4 sets of medals. We are grateful to the International Ski Federation for choosing Krasnoyarsk as a host city for such significant competition. We wish the participants of the races to win and all the spectators – to enjoy the show.

The Ceremony will include an extreme show presented by FERZ, the first Russian freestyle motocross team, which has set a Russian record for the longest continuous series of stunts. Spectacular stunts were accompanied by the fire show, as well as performances by dance groups and music bands.

“The strongest athletes from the leading countries in snowboard cross have gathered here in Krasnoyarsk today,” said Denis Tikhomirov, President of the Russian Snowboard Federation. – This is the second last race before the Olympic Games, and it is very important. Tomorrow 7 athletes will compete for the awards as part of the Russian national team, and they really need our support. Snowboard cross is a very dynamic discipline, and I am sure that the hot race will warm all the participants and guests of the competition. “

Race Director of the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup Uwe Beyer stressed that all the teams were very pleased with the Siberian hospitality: “Coming to Russia, and especially to Siberia, is always a great pleasure for us. People here know how to organize competitions of such a high level so professionally. The snowboard cross competition is one of the major events held by our federation, because it brings together participants from all over the world. We hope to come back to this beautiful city again. And I am sure that today’s event, which we are holding together with the Russian Snowboard Federation and the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, will become one of the most ambitious events of this season. I want to thank the team of organizers and volunteers for their work.”

The first sets of medals will be awarded to the participants who have passed the qualification of the FIS Snowboard world Cup in Snowboard Cross tomorrow.

The FIS Snowboard World Cup in Snowboard Cross is held in Krasnoyarsk for the first time and is qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2022. About 110 athletes from 16 countries take part in international competitions. The competitions are held in individual races among men and women where athletes compete for 4 sets of medals.
