Krasnoyarsk will become one of the cities hosting the matches of FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022. International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) approved Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Ufa as host cities.
The FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022 will take place from August 26 to September 11, with the participation of 24 strongest national teams of the world.
All 24 teams will be divided into six quartets in the first stage, from 26 to 29 August. Two best participants from each group plus four more teams taking third places with the best additional performance indicators, go to the second stage – a total of 16 teams.
16 teams are divided into four quartets at the second stage, which is scheduled from 2 to 4 September. Based on the results of single-round tournaments, the winners of these groups plus two more teams taking the second place with the best additional preformance indicators will advanced to the third round, “Final Six”.
In the third group round, from 7 to 9 September, six teams continuing to fight for the awards will be divided into two triplets, where they play in one round. Two best teams advance to the semifinals.
At the deciding stage of the World Championship, September 10-11, the semi-finals, the match for the third place and the final will take place.
Teams will be qualified according to a fundamentally new system. Russia as the host of the tournament and Poland as the reigning world champion, were automatically included as the participants. Top two teams from each Volleyball Continental Championships 2021 will also secure a berth in the championship: Europe – 2, Asia, Australia and Oceania – 2, Africa – 2, North, Central America and the Caribbean – 2, South America – 2. The remaining 12 places will be played in the qualifying tournament, which will feature 24 teams that have not yet been selected for the FIVB World Championship.
