Governor of Krasnoyarsk Region Alexander Uss held a video conference on the issues of Krasnoyarsk aviation hub development. The Head of Region, the members of the Government, representatives of US RUSAL, ERA Group and Volga-Dnepr Group discussed the project of establishment of an international transportation, logistic and production hub at Krasnoyarsk and Cheremshanka airports.
The project suggests the establishment of a cluster of facilities located on a united territory and integrated with the administrative and business, economic, engineering, transportation infrastructures, cargo handling areas and production facilities, bearing a status of a special industrial production economic zone. The successfully implemented project will improve the ground infrastructure of Krasnoyarsk and Cheremshanka airports, and get the airport involved in the global network and make it a transit point for international trade, creating a new high value-added production centre.
At the moment, the high-speed taxiway repair works are in process, the preliminary technical and economic feasibility study of the hub project is complete, the detailed profile of the resident with standard selection criteria has been drawn up; the roadmap of the preparation stage of the project has been developed, and the special economic zone planned to be established on the premises of the airport has been incorporated in the Krasnoyarsk Region land-use scheme.
The question of assignment the special economic zone status to the Krasnoyarsk airport territory was elaborated on. At the moment, in cooperation with ERA Group, US RUSAL, and Yenisey Siberia Development Corporation, the Government of Region is working on attracting the potential residents to the zone. Among the possible participants of the project, such production and logistic companies as airlines, warehouse operators, e-trade platforms, pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies, electronics, medical equipment manufacturers and machine engineering part producers are considered.
“Establishment of a special economic zone in the territory of Krasnoyarsk airport is extremely interesting to us. With their enormous potential, such projects act as powerful drivers to the economy of the surrounding territories. Air transportation services always facilitate the clustering of adjacent services and productions around them, creating new jobs and increasing the tax revenues to the budget,” remarked Alexander Uss.
The Governor suggested holding the international cargo aviation hub project meetings once in two months. He delegated the Government of the region to prepare a list of questions for thorough discussion at the subsequent working meetings.
Remarkably, despite the hard times the airlines are having due to the COVID pandemic, the airport of Krasnoyarsk is still stably operating. During the recession of passenger traffic, the airport enhanced its cargo traffic efforts. Compared with the same period of the last year, the number of cargo flights served by Krasnoyarsk airport has increased by almost three times.
