The technical project for the development of Ak-Sug, one of the major copper fields of Russia, has been approved by the Central Committee for Solid Mineral Deposit Development (Rosnedra Central Committee).
The project designed by Intergeo company for the construction of mining and processing plant at the Ak-Sug porphyry copper field is a part of the Yenisey Siberia Comprehensive Investment Project. Besides the MPP construction, the project suggests building the associated infrastructure, including a motor road between the MPP and Zhuravlevo railway station, a handling terminal and a 220 V main line.
The design of the technical development roadmap for Ak-Sug field was done by Giprotsvetmet. The roadmap was intended to implement technical, technological and organizational solutions for the ore field commissioning.
The project by Giprotsvetmet was first submitted for consideration by the Rosnedra Central Committee on 30 March 2020, and on 12 May it was unanimously approved by the Committee members. The approved documentation will serve as a basis for the deposit open-pit mining, producing commercial copper and molybdenum concentrates.
According to the technical documentation, the construction of the Ak-Sug field MPP with the production capacity of 24 million tonnes of ore per year is scheduled to commence in 2020, and the commissioning of the plant is planned for 2023.
Besides being one of the major projects of the Yenisey Siberia CIP, the Ak-Sug field-based mining and processing plant will become an important systemic enterprise in the Republic of Tyva, creating four thousand jobs for the MPP personnel and six thousand additional jobs.
