Nornickel will invest 70 billion roubles in development of South Cluster in north of Krasnoyarsk Territory by 2027

This was mentioned at a session of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Legislative Assembly by the State Secretary and the company Vice-President Dmitry Pristanskov.

The South Cluster is a Nornickel’s project of reserves development in the northern part of the Norilsk-1 Field. This is the field where the company’s history began. The investment project is aimed at expansion of Zapolyarny mine capacity and building of new mining capacities for quarrying, as well as at expansion and modernization of the tailings, which will increase the efficiency of raw material processing. The project also implies a complex renewal of the Norilsk Concentrator in order to increase its production capacity. The South Cluster consists of a number of facilities that currently provide for the production of about 4% of Nornickel annual output.

“An entirely new mineral resource centre will be created. When the project is implemented in 2027, the total production capacity of the Cluster will increase from 2 to 9 million tons of ore per year. The investments in mining development, taking into account the renewal of the Concentrator and some infrastructure, will amount to about 70 billion roubles,” said Dmitry Pristanskov. According to him, the project will create about 2000 new jobs and additional tax payments in the amount of 30 billion roubles over ten years. Dmitry Pristanskov added that the project was a part of the Yenisey Siberia Comprehensive Investment Project which incorporates 32 projects of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Khakassia and the Republic of Tyva.

Director General of the Corporation of Yenisey Siberia Development Sergei Ladyzhenko mentioned that Taimyr Peninsula is one of the most perspective territories of the country in terms of resources. “We see great interest from large companies to work in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Today, Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets district is a place of a number of projects aimed at development of mineral resources mining and processing. One of such projects is devoted to exploitation of the Payakha oil fields, the development of the Sarydasay coal deposits, and the South Cluster. Negotiations on some new projects of coal and palladium extraction are in progress. The implementation of this project complex will be a powerful impetus to the social and economic development of the territory,” said Sergey Ladyzhenko.
